Decisions from data visualization: Cheminformatics discovery and integration with other knowledge

The discovery process in cheminformatics involves an ever-increasing volume of data. In the reductionist approach of narrowing leads down to those few worthy of additional development, having more information at the outset can actually slow down the entire process, rather than lead to more discoveries. To overcome this, it is critical to have new ways of utilizing large volumes of data. And, even more importantly, having a means to integrate those analyses with other data from diverse sources – such as patent literature for defining freedom to operate and biological data to avoid unwanted side effects – is crucial to effective and fast decisions. Data visualization methods that can overcome these hurdles will be presented and discussed
