Andrew Lemon gained his PhD from the University of Bath , UK in 1991, undertaking molecular dynamics simulations of lipid bilayers, and creating analysis software to extract metrics for comparison with experimental results. He did a post doc at the University of Southampton researching side chain placement algorithms using AI heuristics to identify the lowest energy side chain configuration from the combinatorial space of alternatives. In 1997 he joined MDL information systems developing solutions for combinatorial library design, and analysis of markush structures. In 2000 he joined IDBS where he has helped develop their cheminformatics business, providing an integrated chemistry and biological management system under the ActivityBase suite. Andrew is the chemistry products manager at IDBS, setting the product direction from chemical databases to QSAR modelling systems.
