Cheminformatics Scientist

posted 16 May 2008

Our Client is a private drug discovery company based in Massachusetts that discovers and develops therapeutics for the treatment of underserved neurological disorders. The company's approach uses cultured cell and model genetic organism-based screens that recapitulate disease processes to discover mechanistically and chemically novel drug leads for our target medical conditions. Following a seed financing in 2000, we have successfully obtained over $12 million from grants and corporate partnerships which they have used to build and implement our unique drug discovery assays and capabilities. The business model balances risk and reward by generating near-term income, while maintaining a long-term focus on high-value proprietary therapeutic products.

We have an immediate need for a scientist (MS or Ph.D.) with significant experience in cheminformatics, chemical database and library management, and/or medicinal chemistry data analysis expertise. Job responsibilities will include managing and enhancing the company’s ~85,000 compound chemical library, maintaining and managing screening data, maintaining and managing compound structure/activity optimization project data, identifying and purchasing chemical analogs for initial SAR development and collaborating with medicinal chemists to identify and source chemical building blocks for compound optimization projects. Familiarity with laboratory automation, automation data handling, and data processing is highly desirable. Industrial compound optimization team experience is also highly desired. This position is in a small company environment, so readiness to master new techniques, general facility with computer database software [Oracle, SQL, PL/SQL, etc.] and related storage hardware [PC’s, servers, etc.] as well as the capacity to work with a high degree of independence is required.

The company offers a competitive compensation and benefits package including: 75% company paid medical, dental and disability insurance coverage; 12 paid holidays and 15 vacation days annually; 401(K) plan with company match of up to 4% salary.
